[After The Party]

I didn’t dance with Shaquor, but I did make him lick his lips which gave me a slight confidence boost. I figured this could be the night I shared how I felt about him. I was tired of keeping it a secret. Plus, if he rejected me, there weren’t too many witnesses around, seeing as a lot of people left when the dance committee asked for help cleaning up. I stayed around to help clean up and surprisingly, so did Shaquor. So I took that as a sign that I should go talk to him, especially since he was sitting all by himself. I took a deep breath and started walking toward him, but something stopped me. Jonnae saw me approaching; she quickly sprung into action and beat me over to him. I was so angry that I missed the opportunity. At that juncture, I determined I was going to tell him before the end of the semester, you could bet on that.

“Aye, you ready Brook?” Skylen asked me.

I looked back at Shaquor and Jonnae and said, “Yeah I’m definitely ready.” I meant that in more ways than Skylen could possibly know at the moment.

As we walked out the student center and toward our dorm, Skylen grabbed my arm and said, “Can you believe tomorrow is November first?”

“Sure can’t. School’s almost over.” I said.

“Yeah, that means the time to talk to Shaquor is now.” Skylen indicated; I agreed with her. Nevertheless, I would never give her the satisfaction of admitting it. She always seemed to have a way of reading my mind without knowing it.
